1B Freddie Freeman has setback

Just when all of us thought and were told that everything with 1B Freddie Freeman's elbow was all good, it wasn't. Freeman was scratched from the spring training lineup earlier this week because of discomfort in his elbow.

Over this past offseason Freeman had fragments and other debris removed from his elbow. Freeman first started feeling this discomfort last year in having one of his best seasons yet in his 10-year career. Freeman hit .295 with 38 homeruns with 121 RBI's. Both homers and RBI's were career high for Freeman. All this with a bum elbow. During this offseason it was reported the Freeman would get painkillers before each game last season to numb the pain, but the painkillers were given well in advance of the game because a side effect of the painkiller was blurred vision. And we all know blurred vision during a game just means disaster.

Three off seasons ago Freeman had lasik surgery to correct his vision and two seasons ago he was hit on his wrist while at bat and broke his wrist. Later he got drilled again in that same wrist, it was sore, but not broken again.

Freeman has had his share of injuries, but it hasn't set him back on the field of play. Freeman did update yesterday on his sore elbow. His elbow was just sore because it has been worked out more frequently since spring training has begun. His elbow just has to get use to the frequent motion again. But his elbow will be fine. He wanted to be in yesterday's lineup against the Cardinals (Braves 3, Cardinals 1), but he will work out a little more and start spring training play a little later.
