A World With No Sports

Safety is always first and human life always comes before sports. But I do have to say with the world shutting down on hiatus for the unforeseeable future until covid-19 can calm down, meaning no sports will be played is giving me a headache.
But I have to look at my life and see what is important to me during this time, and it is not sports. Sports is a leisure activity for me. What is important to me is God, my faith, and family. Team Kirkley is made up of five people: Myself, my wife, and three awesome, adorable little girls. I am a #girldad and love it. But as my day job begins to close down for a bit, it will be time to reflect what is important. All five of us will be home spending time together in what God has intended us to be…. a family.

Being proactive with the covid-19 is the only way to be. At first it was the NCAA saying March Madness, including the Final Four and Championship in Atlanta will proceed, not open to the public except essential personnel and family. But once Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert and now another Jazz player Donavon Mitchell both tested positive with the coronavirus, everything began to change. As of now, no other player from any other sport has tested positive. After the two NBA players tested positive, the NBA, MLB, MLS, XFL (which was very entertaining by the way), and the forthcoming Masters beginning on April 9th have all been cancelled or suspended. The NCAA has then cancelled all men and women events, this includes both men’s and women’s conference championship, March Madness, the Final Four, and Championship game. What I have seen is the # 1 seed going into each conference tournament has been given conference championship.
I have never known a world where there are no sports. I can turn on the TV and some sort of sport is on, but not now. Everyone just needs to take care of themselves and their loved ones. Just like everything in this world, God has a plan, and this will soon pass. And just as my kids are jumping off the walls because they can’t go outside and play, a world with no sports makes me see what’s most important in this world.
